Spring has come, and our unelected ignoramus has declared a pre-emptive, unjustified, illegal war on Iraq. And with that I begin this weblog.

Well over a year has passed since September 11, we’ve since launched a strike against Afghanistan while managing to lose our target, the ex-CIA trained Osama bin Laden somewhere over the rainbow in Afghanistan or Pakistan; our ignoramus and his cronies have launched an unprecedented crackdown on civil liberties in the name of security; we’ve jailed several thousand of likely innocent people behind bars without access to lawyers or trial; we have refused to grant PoW status to those we captured in Afghanistan; we have continued to fund Israeli tit-for-tat terrorism against the Palestinians, and they have thanked us by deliberately murdering an American citizen; and we have all but forgiven our intelligence agencies not only for the drastic intelligence failure that allowed 9-11 to happen, but also for failing to track down the source of the anthrax attacks that followed closely thereafter.

Now we face a terrorism threat of a kind we never have before, and mind you terrorism doesn’t grow out of nowhere – it grows out of fertile soil, an environment which we arguably nurtured, and now we reap the fruits. American reputation is at the lowest it ever has been and it seems all too much like civil war all over again when men gave their lives without need by using pre-gun tactics against guns – now we evolve to the next stage and fight biological, nuclear and chemical terrorism with guns. The results are likely to be far more devastating this time around.

America has done some ugly stuff since its founding two hundred years ago – slavery and discrimination, Vietnam and Afghanistan, but our moron has truly opened a new chapter with this war, essentially creating a new America that openly ignores international law, an America that now stands to threaten the very future of humanity.

There was once a dream of a country of freedom and opportunity, a land of equality and peace. What happened to that dream? Why do I suddenly find myself hiding my nationality while traveling, why am I suddenly ashamed of the crimes my tax dollars helped commit? Not in my name, not with my help.

Soldiers in subways; massive crackdowns on dissent; innocent people left to rot in jails without access to lawyers; unprecedented adventures in foreign lands; threat of annihilation of the human race. Is this what we will have to face for the rest of our lives?

Another world is possible. I pledge to dedicate my life to reshaping our world into that world. Will you join me?
